Since my last entry, I've been to Yangzhou - a place famous for "beautiful women" who were sought after to be concubines for the Emperors and famous for Yangzhou fried rice (so good even I ate it and I don't like rice). It's also home to Slender West Lake, a gorgeous park. In fact, besides the fact that the Chinese don't line up for jack and their kids walk around peeing and pooping everywhere, I love it here. The subways are so clean, and much quieter. The streets are clean. the sidewalks are clean. The food is good, and I've lost weight (partially because that you can only eat so much in an hour with chopsticks and because of the food itself).
I also visited a laquer factory and walked around the old Yangzhou. I saw a cute little puppy next to a bubbling pot of street food.....
I also see people on bicycles and other pedal-operated things loaded with garbage. Less pollution and more fat-burn , I guess. However, the smog is so thick it distorts what's across the street in some areas. In Slender West Lake, though, it wasn't so bad, and there is significantly less smog in Hong Kong than all the mainland cities I've visited....
